Banksy’s Love Hurts, also known as Bandaged Heart, belongs to a prestigious collection of just 16 signed serigraphs. Banksy himself explained that Love Hurts “is obviously an iconic representation of the battle to survive a broken heart. It is an uplifting visual poem for that most fragile of human emotions that seems to move within us like a gentle breeze.” Love, or lack thereof, is a theme that has worried Banksy throughout his career in works such as Love is in the Air (later adapted as a screen print) which depicts a young man throwing a bouquet of flowers like a grenade, meaning to signify the act of spreading love. The iconic work Love Rat was also intended to publicly deliver a message of love to the city.
